Goof Off

It's Wimbledon and this is the last week. I have been working late to substitute my morning hours spent on tennis. So far I've managed to get shipping schedule under control. So that's good. I know how anxious you are waiting for fiber to arrive :)

Last weekend I went to Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, Oregon. I got some handdyed sock yarns and ONE fleece. Yes, just one this time. I will post photos once I get around to get them off my camera.

Have a great summer!

Thriving

I just want to do a quick post and update on the vegetables we planted about three weeks ago. We got tomatoes, onions, Thai chilies, squash, lettuce, and napa cabbage.

Some leaves got eaten by slugs. I have been sprinkled used coffee grounds around them and it seems to work. Can't wait to see the tomatoes!

Have a great memorial day weekend!

Happy Earth Day

And it is the best day to share this with you. We built our 5' x 5' raised bed vegetable garden. Here's how we did it.

Materials
Ingredients:
4 - 2X6X10 Cedar cut in half. You get 8 pieces.
8 - Simpson RTC24 connectors.
80 - outdoor star screws 8/1-1/4.
2- 2x2 cedar baluster cut in half. You get 4 pieces and sharpen one end.
Tools: heavy hammer, level, square, drill/driver, tape measure.

Layout - upside down. Stage one construction; best done on level area.

Corner detail showing use of RTC24 connector, 2x6 & 2x2 stake.

Detail showing screwing parts together.

Layer 1 Completed. Final assembly of first row of side boards.

Layer 2 Mock-up. Mock-up of final assembly with both rows.

Leveling on site. We've moved the frame to the garden location. It's a slight slope, so we've dug out a trench for it to set in. Note that we have not completed adding the second row of side boards.

Detail showing use of level to get the frame foundation level.

Foundation is level. Time to add second layer of side boards.

Drill, baby, drill (in a good way - soon it will be a garden).

Right Side Up. Second row fully installed and now turned right side up, ready for hammering anchor stakes into the ground.

Hammered Into Place. Successfully hammered stakes bring the whole assembly into place, ready to have dirt spread around.

Next thing is to get some plants. Yeah!

Oh boy. I am a stranger to my own blog. Sorry blog. There's not much I can do to make it better. I am not a good story teller. Anyway, the weekend is coming and I am really looking forward to it.

I finished a couple of knitting projects and spun some more yarns. It's on Ravelry now. My stash is so unorganized that it is driving me crazy when thinking about new project. I am curious how others manage yarn inventory. I guess I am where I am now because I usually buy or spun yarn with no specific project in mind. Then what I have is 4 oz of this and another 4 oz of that. But they are not enough for a big project like sweater or cardigan. I have been trying to put various skeins together. But I found out that the yarn doesn't have the same weight.

Does anyone has any suggestions?

I will end this post with this photo.

This is my dog. Lucky is sleeping next to a box of my handspun yarns. Can't you see that his eyes don't completely close? He does that all the time. Sometime he snores too :)

Attaboy!
